Amorim has signed a contract that runs until 2027, with an option for an additional year. His debut match is scheduled for November 24 against Ipswich Town.
The details regarding Amorim’s coaching staff are still to be finalized. Reports from The Athletic indicate that the two clubs reached an agreement for Amorim's release, with Manchester United paying €11 million (£9.25m; $11.95m) to terminate his contract early after successful negotiations in Lisbon led by United’s chief executive Omar Berrada.
Amorim's Impressive Track Record
Ruben Amorim has emerged as one of the most promising young coaches in Europe, recognized for his tactical acumen and ability to develop young talent. Since taking charge at Sporting in 2020, he led the team to their first Primeira Liga title in 19 years during the 2020-21 season and successfully defended the title last season. Amorim has also secured the Taca da Liga (Portuguese League Cup) twice with Sporting and once with Braga.
Currently, Sporting is enjoying a perfect start to the season, winning all nine of their league matches and boasting an impressive goal difference of 30-2. They are also performing well in the Champions League, sitting eighth in the new league phase after two wins and a draw.
High Demand for Amorim
Amorim's managerial talents have made him a sought-after candidate in recent months. This summer, he was in the running to succeed Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool before Arne Slot was appointed, and he held discussions regarding the managerial position at West Ham before stepping back and labeling the meeting as "a mistake."
As he prepares to leave Sporting, Amorim has expressed a commitment to ensuring a respectful transition, emphasizing the strong bond he has developed with the club's supporters. Ahead of Sporting’s match against Estrela Amadora, he refrained from discussing specifics about his departure, stating, “It’s a negotiation between two clubs. It’s never easy… We will have clarification after the game.”
Why Ruben Amorim Stands Out
Amorim's successful track record, particularly in securing titles and nurturing young players, makes him a compelling choice for Manchester United. His tactical style, characterized by a flexible 3-4-3 formation focused on high possession and strong defense, has proven effective at Sporting.
Moreover, Amorim has a history of elevating young talents like Goncalo Inacio, Matheus Nunes, and Nuno Mendes, demonstrating his ability to enhance player performance. With a proven ability to deliver results, foster young talent, and adapt his tactics to suit his players, Amorim embodies the qualities that make him highly coveted among top European clubs.
As Manchester United prepares for a new chapter under Amorim's leadership, fans eagerly anticipate the impact he will have on the club's future.
